Scouts From Around the World

Some months ago, Ceredigion Scout Council was asked if they would be able to do group home hospitality for a Troop of Scouts from the Netherlands to which they replied a resounding "Yes". Now that the offer had been excepted, the only problem was to find a willing group who would take on the task. This is where 3rd Cardigan Sea Scouts decided that this would be an opportunity not to be missed and an experience that the young people would never forget. And so after a lot of contact with scout HQ at Gilwell in London with information, location and times and dates everything was ready.

While the world media was focusing on the 21st World Scout Jamboree which was starting on the 27th July 2007, 3rd Cardigan's Celebrations of 100 years of Scouting was about to kick off on the 23rd!! A band of happy leaders, Cubs, Scouts, Beavers and our Area Commissioner Midge McGee waited eagerly at the drop off point and after a good hour the coach rolled in with a troop of Scouts wearing orange uniform tops. We lead this band of Scouts back to our HQ for introductions and a hearty meal and a well earned rest after the five hour journey it took them to get here.

Over the three days we had them, they did activities with local Scouts which included, swimming, hiking, going to the beach and taking in the local sites. But we think the best activity that will be remebered by all of us will be the campfire on the Tuesday night where we shared songs with all the actions and fun that anybody Scouting or non-scouting would of loved and laughed at.

The last day was upon us in a blink of an eye, and it was time to say goodbye to the Bontbekplevian Troop as it was time for them to get ready to go to the Jamboree themselves. As we stood with a few tears in our eyes waving off our new friends, we new that our friendship and memories will last a life time. We will never know if we will meet them again but  we will keep in touch and will always have a friendship bond that no one can break. Would we do it again? Yes, in a blink of an eye. You never know what adventure your going to be doing next!
