In January, Keith and John were given the opportunity to go to the Senedd, Cardiff to prove how Penparcau Scout Group has benefitted from grants from Cydcoed.
Cydcoed, Woodlands for All is the Forestry Commission Wales programme funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and EU (Objective One). In over 4 years the scheme has helped to create two major mountain biking centres, bringing jobs and tourist cash to deprived areas. Cydcoed project manager Rob Seymour said that "the real achievement of this unique project has been in giving the people of Wales a chance to make a change – a chance that they have grasped and worked hard to make happen.”
Penparcau Scout Group received a grant to build a log cabin. They built a 18 by 16 meter wooden cabin in a local woodland, 8 miles outside Aberystwyth. They have also made an agreement with the Forestry Commission to utilise the woodland for Scouting purposes. Hopefully the site will be further developed this summer.
